I currently design websites exclusively on Showit, a platform I believe is perfect for small businesses and creative entrepreneurs.

Showit offers incredible design flexibility, allowing for fully custom, visually stunning websites without the constraints you might find on other platforms. It gives me the freedom to bring your unique brand vision to life, while still offering a user-friendly experience on the back end. Once your website is live, you'll have the control to make simple updates and changes without needing to learn code.

Frequently Asked Questions

The timeline for completing your website depends on the package you choose:

  • Website in a Day: A fast, focused option for simpler designs (up to 5 pages). To ensure we can launch your site in a single day, it's essential that you are fully prepared before the day begins.
  • Website in a Week: For more complex sites or those with additional features (like blogs or shops), you'll have a one-week design window. To stay on track, preparation is key.

What You Need to Do Before We Start:
To make sure the design process runs smoothly, you'll need to complete your "homework" before the design window begins. This includes:

  • Writing and finalizing your website copy
  • Gathering high-quality photos and videos
  • Providing design inspiration
  • Completing all questionnaires and any other necessary prep work

Feedback Process:
  • For Website in a Day: We’ll work through your site quickly and efficiently, so please be ready to provide feedback throughout the Design Day.
  • For Website in a Week: During the one-week Design Period, I'll be actively seeking your feedback to fine-tune your website. It’s crucial that you respond to feedback requests within 24 hours to ensure a smooth, timely process.

Being prepared will help keep everything on schedule and allow us to deliver the best result, no matter which package you choose!

How long does a typical web design project take?

While I don’t offer ongoing retainer packages, I do provide options for support that can fit your needs without long-term commitments.

Here’s how I can help post-launch:

  • Website Handoff & Training: Once your website goes live, I’ll provide you with a complete handoff package, including video tutorials and written guides to help you confidently manage your website on your own. This training covers everything from updating text and images to managing your blog (if applicable).
  • 30-Day Support Window: After your website is launched, I offer a 30-day support window where I’m available to fix any small issues that may arise as you get familiar with your new site. This helps ensure that everything runs smoothly post-launch.
  • Hourly or Project-Based Support: If you need additional updates or changes in the future, I offer ongoing support on an as-needed basis. You can book me for hourly or project-based work whenever you need, without the commitment of a monthly retainer.

This approach allows you to maintain control of your website while having access to expert help when you need it, without the burden of ongoing retainer fees.

Do you offer ongoing website maintenance or support?

I understand that sometimes plans change, and you may need to cancel your project. If that happens, you can cancel the agreement with 14 days' written notice.

Here’s what to expect in the event of a cancellation:

  • Deposit: The 50% deposit paid at the start of the project is nonrefundable.
  • Cancellation Fee: If you cancel after work has started, a cancellation fee of 25% of the remaining balance will apply to cover time reserved for your project.
  • Work Completed: You’ll also be responsible for paying any fees related to services already performed and any expenses incurred up until the termination date.

My goal is to ensure the process remains as fair and transparent as possible, even if things don’t go as planned.

What happens if I need to cancel my project?

To ensure a smooth design process, I recommend that clients sign up for a Showit account prior to the start of the one-week design period or Design Day. This allows us to get right to work on your site!

During the design phase, I will create your website within my own Showit account to ensure everything is set up perfectly. Upon launch, I’ll transfer key code over to your Showit account.

Clients are responsible for purchasing their own domain name, and I recommend using GoDaddy for this. Once your domain name is set up, I’ll transfer the key code to you, enabling you to manage your website directly from your own account.

This approach gives you complete control over your site while ensuring that you have the best hosting solution tailored to your needs!

How do you handle hosting and domain setup?

To ensure fairness to all clients in my design calendar, I stick firmly to my design schedule. Delaying one project can impact others, and I want to respect everyone’s timeline.

If you’re concerned about meeting the content deadlines, please send me an email at doreenkjohnson@gmail.com, and I’ll let you know the next available date in my design calendar.

To help you prepare, I offer copy templates to support you in writing your website copy.

Please keep in mind that if you need to change your design date, there are financial implications based on how close you are to your scheduled start date:

  • If you change your design date within 5 business days of booking, your 50% deposit will hold your new date in the design calendar.
  • If you change your design date 6 business days or later after booking, your deposit cannot be applied to another design date and will not be refunded.

By keeping communication open, we can find a solution that works for both of us!

What if I don’t have my content ready by the deadline?

The Showit plan you choose will depend on the specific features and functionality you want for your website. Here’s a quick breakdown of Showit’s current plans:

  • Basic Plan ($19/month): Ideal if you don’t need or want a blog.
  • Pro Plan ($24/month): Suitable if you want to start a blog alongside your website.
  • Advanced Plan ($34/month): Best for those with an existing blog that requires migration or custom WordPress plugins.

Which Showit plan do I need?

While professional photos are not required, I highly recommend them. High-quality images play a key role in the overall look of your site and how it’s perceived by potential clients. They help your website appear more polished and professional, which can increase trust and engagement with your audience.

That said, if you don’t have professional photos available, you can substitute with high-quality stock images from websites like Pexels or Unsplash. These can be a great temporary solution until you’re ready to invest in professional photography.
